Death toll from measles, symptoms reaches 780 with one more casualty

Bangladesh has recorded one more child death with measles-like symptoms in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths linked to measles and its symptoms to 780 this year, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

In its regular daily bulletin issued on Friday, the DGHS said the latest fatality involved a child with measles-like symptoms, while no confirmed measles deaths were reported during the period.

Since 15 March, a total of 685 children have died with measles-like symptoms, while 95 children have died from laboratory-confirmed measles, taking the combined death toll to 780.

The health authority also reported 140 new confirmed measles cases over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of infections to 14,244.

During the same period, 873 people developed measles-like symptoms. Since 15 March, the number of suspected measles cases has reached 116,011.

According to the DGHS, a total of 98,600 patients with measles-like symptoms have been hospitalised since 15 March, of whom 95,031 have recovered and been discharged.
