BNP Joint Secretary General Syed Emran Saleh Prince on Friday urged party leaders and activists to follow Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s simple lifestyle and humanitarian approach, saying his people-oriented politics and development agenda have set a unique example in post-uprising Bangladesh.
He made the remarks while addressing an exchange of views meeting with leaders and activists of the BNP and its associate bodies from Dhurail Union in Haluaghat upazila of Mymensingh.
Prince said Tarique Rahman has emerged as the architect of a humane, welfare-oriented and justice-based state and is working tirelessly to fulfil the people’s aspirations.
“Party leaders and activists must actively participate in this journey of change. Tarique Rahman’s leadership reflects the political ideals of Ziaur Rahman, while he also embodies the legacy of Begum Khaleda Zia. Supporting his leadership is the responsibility of every party worker,” he said.
He said politics should be established as a tool for public service and urged party leaders and activists to work with honesty, discipline and a sense of responsibility.
“The greatest identity of a political worker is the trust of the people,” he added.
Prince also called for building a social movement against violence against women and children, drugs, gambling, extortion, terrorism, land grabbing, corruption and all forms of anti-social activities.
He warned that no BNP leader or activist involved in criminal activities would be spared.
“If any leader or activist of the BNP or its associate organisations is credibly accused of anti-social activities, strict organisational and legal action will be taken against them, regardless of their position, popularity or contribution to the party. No criminal will be protected under the cover of political identity,” he said, urging law enforcement agencies to take tougher action against offenders.
He also said the party would soon begin reorganising BNP committees in every ward of Dhurail Union with dedicated, experienced and people-oriented leaders while accelerating local development activities.
Prince called on party leaders and activists to set aside personal differences and work together in the interest of the organisation while meeting public expectations.
The meeting, chaired by Haluaghat Upazila BNP Joint Convener and freedom fighter Kazim Uddin, was attended by Upazila BNP Convener Aslam Mia Babul, Member Secretary Abu Hasnat Badrul Kabir, Joint Conveners Ali Ashraf and Mizanur Rahman Mizan, District Mohila Dal General Secretary Hosne Ara Nilu and other local BNP leaders.
Leaders and activists from all nine wards of Dhurail Union, along with local dignitaries, were also present.
