Bangladesh Army said remained determined to maintain the country’s overall law and order alongside the sovereignty standing by the people of the country.

“The army has been working relentlessly to protect the country’s sovereignty and life and property of the people,” Army Headquarters (AHQ) military operations directorate staff colonel Md Shafiqul Islam told a media briefing at Dhaka Cantonment today .

He said, the military enforced a vigil to ensure security of the state’s important assets and establishments as part of its actions to keep stable the overall situation of the country.

Islam said the army will take tougher action against mob violence and other activities to create public sufferings and damage public property in the coming days.

The AHQ staff colonel said in line with army chief General  Waker-Uz-Zaman’s directives of the military personnel were carrying on their tasks involving concerned ministries, law enforcement agencies, local administrations and mass media to maintain the law and order.

Bangladesh Army personnel have been working to maintain communal harmony across the country alongside maintaining the overall security of the diplomats and the foreign embassies, he added.

He told the reporters as many as 4,790 injured individuals in the July mass uprising were treated at the combined military hospitals (CMHs) in cantonments across the country. He said 22 of them were still being treated Dhaka CMH.

In the ongoing nationwide anti-crime crackdown, the army arrested 562 more suspected criminals and seized 26 illegal firearms and 100 rounds of bullets in the past two weeks. Since the start of the military deployment to maintain law and order, the army personnel arrested 15,646 crime suspects and seized 9692 illegally possessed firearms and 2,86,0854 ammunitions.
