Train services on the Dhaka–Mymensingh railway route were suspended on Friday morning after three carriages of a commuter train derailed near Gafargaon in Mymensingh district.
The accident occurred at around 9:00am, according to Abdullah Al Harun, Station Superintendent of Mymensingh Railway Station.
He said the Jamalpur commuter train was approaching Gafargaon Railway Station when a loud noise was heard, after which the carriages behind the locomotive derailed.
No casualties or major damage were immediately reported, he added.
Railway authorities have initiated efforts to send senior officials and a relief train to the site to carry out rescue and restoration work.Harun said a railway rescue team has begun work to determine the cause of the derailment and restore normal operations on the affected route as quickly as possible.
