To bring quality eye care to the doorsteps of underprivileged people, Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute organised a day-long free eye treatment camp at Mandarpur village in Kasba upazila of Brahmanbaria on Tuesday, where more than 400 patients received free treatment.
The camp, supported by Maa Amena Gafur Charitable Hospital in Kasba, provided patients with free consultations by eye specialists, vision tests, necessary diagnostic examinations, and medicines.
Despite the rain-soaked morning, patients from distant areas flocked to the camp. An eight-member team of doctors and healthcare workers from Bashundhara Eye Hospital provided treatment throughout the day.
After examinations, patients diagnosed with cataracts, pterygium, lacrimal duct disorders and other complicated eye diseases were selected for surgery.
The hospital authorities said the selected patients would be taken to Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute in Dhaka, where all diagnostic tests, surgeries, medicines, accommodation, meals, and transportation would be provided free of charge.
Freedom fighter Md Matiur Rahman, who came for treatment, said, “I had surgery on one eye through Bashundhara earlier. Now I have a problem with my other eye, so I came to see the doctors again after learning about the camp.”
Another beneficiary, Tahmina Begum, said, “They take us to the hospital by vehicle, provide treatment and then bring us back home. There can be no greater help than this. I am very happy with Bashundhara’s services. Most importantly, we no longer have to travel to the district town or the capital for eye treatment. We are getting quality care close to home.”
Another patient, Abul Khayer, said, “No one provides facilities like Bashundhara. They take full responsibility for eye treatment. These camps are benefiting the people of our area. We pray for Bashundhara.”
Camp Organiser of Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute Md Abu Tayyab said, “Under the humanitarian guidance of Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan and the supervision of Vision Care Foundation, free eye treatment programmes have long been conducted for poor, helpless and underprivileged people in remote areas. Through this initiative, thousands of people are getting the opportunity to regain their eyesight while quality eye care is being delivered to their doorsteps.”
Dr Ahnak Shahriar of Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute said, “Bashundhara hospital has been carrying out humanitarian activities for many years. As part of those efforts, we have been providing free medical services to patients in different parts of the country. Today (Tuesday), we treated patients with eye problems at Mandarpur village. Those with complicated conditions will be taken to Dhaka for free surgeries.”
Established in 2014 by Bashundhara Group and Vision Care Foundation, Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute aims to deliver quality eye care to underprivileged people at their doorsteps.
