State Minister for the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku on Thursday said that the government will provide all necessary support to modernise and boost production at state-owned shrimp estates.

He also urged business leaders, fish farmers, and relevant stakeholders to work together to drive the sector forward, said a press release.

The state minister made the remarks during an exchange of views with local shrimp farmers and businesses after inspecting the government shrimp estate located in Rampur Mouza of Matamuhuri upazila in Cox’s Bazar.

“We have come here to explore ways to advance this project. We have listened to the feedback and challenges faced by businessmen and stakeholders. The issues raised, particularly regarding security and communication infrastructure, will be addressed with high priority,” the state minister said.

Highlighting the economic importance of the sector, the state minister noted that Bangladesh once held a leading position in shrimp production across Asia.

“The government is working tirelessly to restore the lost glory of this sector. The Department of Fisheries and the government will extend all kinds of assistance, including technological support,” he added.

He urged government officials, businesses, and farmers to work sincerely to overcome existing bottlenecks and unlock the full potential of this promising sector.

During the meeting, Cox’s Bazar District Fisheries Officer Mohammad Nazmul Huda delivered a presentation highlighting the ongoing operations, production scenarios, future potential, and expansion plans for the government shrimp estate.

Fisheries and Livestock Secretary Md Delwar Hossain, Director General of the Department of Fisheries Dr Khaled Konak, Director General of the Department of Livestock Services Md Shahzaman Khan, Divisional Director of Fisheries (Chattogram) Md Anwar Hossain, and local shrimp farmers and business leaders were present, among others.
