National Citizen Party (NCP) chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary has called for the arrest of former law adviser of the interim government Dr Asif Nazrul, accusing him of creating complications within the government and failing to keep his promises.
In a recent statement, Patwary described Asif Nazrul as “a dishonest person, hypocrite, fraud and liar”, although he said he respected him as a teacher.
“After the government was formed, Asif Nazrul had assured me that the President would be removed. He did not keep his promise,” Patwary said.
“I cannot stand Asif Nazrul for this reason. He told me that he would remove the President after the government was formed,” he added.
Patwary also accused the former law adviser of allegedly “playing games behind the scenes” on various issues during the formation of the interim government.
According to the NCP leader, Asif Nazrul had attempted to make various changes during discussions with BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed on issues including the July Proclamation and the July National Charter.
Patwary said Asif Nazrul had been present at various stages of the process of forming the government following the student-led mass uprising.
He claimed that when they were heading to the cantonment, Asif Nazrul had introduced himself as a representative of the students.
Patwary further alleged that Asif Nazrul was not allowed inside Bangabhaban when they went there and was made to sit outside.
“If he had tried to get involved that day, the government would not have been formed,” Patwary said.
He also criticised Asif Nazrul over his involvement in livestock farming during the interim government.
“Why would he go to rear goats or cows during the interim government?” Patwary said.
