National Citizen Party (NCP) Northern Region Chief Organizer Sarjis Alam has highly praised Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for his surprise, unannounced inspections aimed at assessing the overall waste management operations of Dhaka’s two city corporations.
Alongside his praise, Sarjis also urged the Prime Minister to experience firsthand the realities of several pressing national issues—including extortion, market syndicates, drug trafficking, and the abuse of power by party leaders and activists—by conducting undercover field visits.
Sarjis made the remarks in a post on his verified Facebook account on Friday (29 May).
In the post, he noted that the Prime Minister had visited various areas of the capital without any prior announcement to directly observe the actual state of ongoing waste removal activities in the two city corporations. During the inspections, serious mismanagement and negligence in waste management were reportedly identified, leading to immediate disciplinary action against two officials.
Welcoming the Prime Minister’s surprise inspection drive, Sarjis wrote, “Although everyone responsible within the broader system may not be punished, this initiative is commendable. For that, I thank Mr. Tarique Rahman.”
He also expressed the view that such unannounced inspections by top leadership would play a positive role in ensuring accountability at the field level.
