Gold and silver prices have declined once again in local market, with the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) announcing a reduction of Tk4,432 per bhori (11.664 grams) of gold and Tk58 per bhori of silver.
The new prices came into effect on Friday (12 June), according to the association.
In a statement, BAJUS said the revised rates were set after considering the overall market situation following a decline in the prices of pure gold and refined silver in the local market.
Under the new price structure, 22-carat gold is being sold at Tk218,350 per bhori. The price of 21-carat gold has been fixed at Tk208,436 per bhori, while 18-carat gold is priced at Tk178,692. Traditional-method gold is now selling at Tk145,508 per bhori.
Previously, on 10 June, BAJUS had adjusted gold prices, setting the rate of 22-carat gold at Tk222,782 per bhori. Under the latest revision, the price has been reduced by a further Tk4,432.
Silver prices have also been lowered. Under the new rates, 22-carat silver is selling at Tk4,841 per bhori, 21-carat silver at Tk4,607, 18-carat silver at Tk3,966, and traditional-method silver at Tk2,974 per bhori.
According to BAJUS data, gold prices have been adjusted 73 times so far this year. Of those, prices were increased on 37 occasions and reduced 36 times. Meanwhile, silver prices have been revised 44 times, with 22 increases and 22 decreases.
Market analysts say frequent adjustments in gold and silver prices have become necessary due to fluctuations in international markets and changes in local raw material costs. As a result, price volatility is expected to continue in the coming days
