The holy festival of Eid-ul-Azha, one of the largest religious celebrations for Muslims, is being observed across the country for the second consecutive day in hopes of attaining the blessings of Almighty Allah.

Many people in Dhaka and other parts of the country continued offering animal sacrifices on the second day of Eid on Friday (29 May).

In different areas of the capital, some families were seen following long-standing family traditions by performing sacrifices on the second day, while others postponed the ritual because they could not find butchers on Eid day.

People offering sacrifices on the second day said that the first day of Eid usually brings excessive pressure and various difficulties, including a shortage of butchers. For this reason, many feel more comfortable performing the sacrifice the following day.

Iqbal Hossain, a resident of Moghbazar, said that his family has a long tradition of offering sacrifices on the second day of Eid, and they are continuing that practice this year as well.

Butcher Matin Mia said he slaughtered and processed meat from three cows on Eid day and remained equally busy on the second day.

According to Islamic Shariah, the time for performing Qurbani lasts for three days. Muslims may offer sacrifices on the 10th, 11th, and 12th days of the Arabic Hijri month of Zilhajj, depending on their ability. Therefore, if someone is unable to perform the sacrifice on Eid day, it remains valid during the following two days.
