The police have taken Inspector Rakibul Islam, the outgoing officer-in-charge of Kamalapur Police Station, to the head office of the Detective Branch (DB) at Mintoo Road in the capital.
Rakibul was taken to the DB head office late into Thursday night after he was withdrawn from his post over a controversial audio leak, confirmed DB Additional Commissioner Shafiqul Islam.
A three-member probe team, including a DB personnel and two from DMP headquarters, including a cybercrime professional, is quizzing Rakibul at the DB head office, sources said.
A policeman from the cybercrime unit is also a part of the team.
By 12am, Rakibul was still inside the DB head office.
On Wednesday night, an audio clip surfaced on the social media, where a voice believed to be Rakibul’s highlights the prospects of ousted and fugitive Awami League leader, Sheikh Hasina, returning to Bangladesh in December.
Rakibul’s persona claims police would be too weak or helpless against Awami League leader’s potential return to Bangladesh in December.
The persona also alleges widespread bribe exchanges and corruption in the promotion of police officers.
