The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) has set up a round-the-clock control room to monitor the supply, stocks, transportation, distribution and retail sale of fertiliser across the country amid concerns over the availability of farm inputs.
According to an office order issued on Monday, the control room has been set up at the DAE’s Field Service Wing at Khamarbari in Dhaka to ensure continuous monitoring and prompt resolution of problems related to fertiliser management.
The DAE has assigned officials to operate the control room in two shifts every day. The first shift will run from 8am to 3pm, while the second will continue from 3pm to 10pm.
Officials have been instructed to monitor fertiliser supply and distribution and take necessary measures if irregularities or problems emerge at the field level.
The order said daily fertiliser reports should be sent to the DAE control room through its designated email address and WhatsApp group to facilitate regular monitoring.
The move comes as the government steps up monitoring of fertiliser stocks and distribution to prevent artificial shortages, hoarding and irregularities in the retail market.
The DAE has also intensified surveillance of the fertiliser distribution system as farmers prepare for the ongoing agricultural season.
The duty roster covers all seven days of the week, with designated agricultural extension officials assigned to each shift.
