The Islami Bank Conscious Depositors’ Forum on Monday demanded that the Bangladesh Bank form a full-fledged board of directors for Islami Bank within the next 24 hours, warning that it will launch tougher protest programmes if the demand was not met.
The forum’s Convener Noor Un Nabi set the deadline during a sit-in arranged in front of the central bank.
Noor Un Nabi also announced that if its seven-point demand remains, it will unveil more stringent programmes through a press conference scheduled for Wednesday.
Noor Un Nabi alleged that although the central bank has acknowledged that the demands are reasonable, there has been no visible progress in implementing these.
He called for the formation of an independent and complete board of directors comprising honest, qualified, experienced and professional individuals through consultations with all stakeholders within the next 24 hours.
The forum also demanded the restoration of ownership rights to shareholders who allegedly lost their shares in 2017.
The other demands are: forming a special judicial tribunal for the trial of bank looters, recovery of looted bank funds, seizure of S Alam’s assets and revocation of provisions allowing repatriation of bank looters under a law amendment.
