Four workers die ‘inhaling toxic gas’ in septic tank

Four workers died after reportedly inhaling toxic gas inside a septic tank at an under-construction house in Sarail upazila of Brahmanbaria on Wednesday afternoon.

The incident took place at Galania Pashchimpara village under Kalikachchha union around 4pm.

The deceased were Md Hridoy, 26, Iman Hossain, 26, Mehedi, 17, and Arman, 18, all residents of Galania Purbopara village.

Sarail police station Officer-In-Charge Monjur Kader Bhuiyan confirmed the incident.

Police and Fire Service and Civil Defence officials said one of the workers fell ill after entering the septic tank.

As the other three rushed in one after another to rescue him, they were overcome by the toxic gas. All four died at the scene.

Sarail Fire Service Station Leader Riaz Mohammad said firefighters rushed to the spot after being informed and recovered the bodies.

He suspected that the incident might have been caused by the accumulation of toxic gas inside the septic tank and said the exact cause would be confirmed after an investigation.
