A night guard at a rickshaw garage was beaten to death in the city’s Mansurabad area early Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Md Siddique, 70, a resident of the area.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Double Mooring Police Station Shahinur Alam said Siddique used to prevent local youths from gathering at the garage and taking away valuables.
One of the youths allegedly assaulted him over the issue in the early hours of Thursday, leaving him dead on the spot, the OC said.
Police recovered the body and detained two people in connection with the incident, he added.
A drive was underway to arrest the main suspect, while the body was sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for an autopsy, the OC said.
