Police have detained 363 more youths in simultaneous drives across Cumilla district against teenage gangs, bringing the total number of detainees to 2,035 in five phases of the ongoing operation.
The latest drive was conducted from Friday evening until late at night.
Police detained 624 people in the first phase, 254 in the second, 415 in the third and 379 in the fourth phase during the drives.
The latest operation was carried out under the direct supervision of Cumilla Superintendent of Police Md Anisuzzaman, with personnel from the district’s 18 police stations, various units of the district police and the Detective Branch (DB) taking part.
Police conducted raids in Cumilla city and other parts of the district identified as hotspots for teenage troublemakers, crime-prone locations, and regular gathering spots.
Authorities are currently screening the detainees to determine whether they are linked to criminal activities.
Legal action will be taken against those found involved in crimes, police said.
District police said such operations are being conducted regularly to prevent teenagers and young people from becoming involved in criminal activities.
At the same time, police said strict monitoring is being maintained to ensure innocent people are not subjected to harassment during the drives.
Cumilla district police said the campaign against juvenile crime and teenage gangs will continue regularly.
