The Assistant High Commission of India in Chattogram organised a beach cleaning drive at Patenga Sea Beach on Thursday as part of the nationwide ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign marking the 157th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

The drive was held from 9:00am to 11:00am under the theme ‘Swachhata Mein Sahbhag, Swachha Bharat, Vikasit Bharat’ and as part of ‘Seva Pakhwada 2026’.

The Assistant High Commissioner of India in Chattogram, along with other officials and employees of the mission, took part in the programme.

Around 100 students of Chittagong Grammar School also participated in the drive, collecting harmful plastic, polythene and other waste scattered across the beach and placing them at designated collection points.

The participating students and members of the organising team were given special T-shirts featuring the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign theme.

Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) and Tourist Police provided security and maintained law and order during the programme.

The Indian mission in Chattogram said the initiative conveyed a message of environmental protection and cleanliness through the participation of young people and helped raise awareness among local visitors and the general public.
