Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman arrived in the Maldives on Saturday to attend the island nation’s 61st Independence Day events.
He was received by Maldivian Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam and senior officials of the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said a press release by Maldives’s foreign ministry.
Khalilur is visiting the Maldives from 25–27 July as a special guest of the Maldives government to attend the celebrations marking the 61st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Maldives.
During the visit, Khalilur is scheduled to pay a courtesy call on Dr Mohamed Muizzu, president of the Republic of Maldives, and meet with Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam.
The discussions will focus on further strengthening the longstanding partnership between the Maldives and Bangladesh, reviewing the broad spectrum of bilateral cooperation, and exploring new opportunities to expand collaboration in areas of mutual interest.
The two ministers will also exchange views on regional and international developments and reaffirm their commitment to continued cooperation in regional and multilateral fora.
This is the first official visit to the Maldives by Khalilur since assuming office as the foreign minister on 17 February 2026.
The visit marks a significant milestone in further strengthening the longstanding and cordial relations between the Maldives and Bangladesh, and sets the stage for enhanced cooperation in the years ahead.
