Faridpur-3 Member of Parliament Chowdhury Nayab Yusuf conducted a surprise visit to Faridpur General Hospital and Faridpur Medical College Hospital on Friday to oversee the overall situation of healthcare services.
During the inspection, the MP enquired about the quality of treatment being provided to patients and the availability of essential medicines.
Nayab Yusuf also spoke directly with patients and their attendants to find out whether they were facing any negligence in receiving treatment.
After the inspection, she spoke with reporters. “Both hospitals are currently treating several times more patients than their designated capacity. The hospital authorities and doctors are struggling to cope with the huge number of patients.”
Outlining her plans to improve the scope and quality of healthcare services, Nayab said an initiative has been taken to formally upgrade Faridpur General Hospital to a 250-bed facility and the approval process is currently at the final stage.
Once implemented, she hoped, people in Faridpur and surrounding areas would have access to better and more modern healthcare facilities.
