Police have sought a seven-day remand of Satkhira-4 MP and expelled Jamaat-e-Islami leader Gazi Nazrul Islam and his first wife, Maksuda Begum, for questioning in a case filed over the alleged abetment of the suicide of his second wife, Mariam.
Court sources confirmed the matter, saying that a hearing on the remand petition is scheduled to be held before Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Ehsanul Islam.
The two were arrested in connection with the case, according to police. The investigation authorities are seeking their remand to question them about the circumstances surrounding Mariam’s death and allegations raised in the case.
The court will decide whether to grant the remand after hearing both sides.
