Speakers at a workshop in Khulna today emphasized that coordinated efforts from both government and non-government organizations are vital to minimizing the loss and damage caused by climate change.

The workshop, organized by the ADAMS Foundation, was held under the project “Multi-Actor Partnership (MAP) on Climate-Related Loss and Damage,”at a hotel in the city, aiming to support the establishment of a national mechanism to address loss and damage in Bangladesh.

Md Hossain Sawkat, additional divisional commissioner and acting managing director of Khulna Water and Sewerage Authority, attended the event as the chief guest. Ali Aslam, executive director of the ADAMS Foundation, chaired the session.

Participants at the workshop included government officials, representatives from local and international NGOs, civil society members, academics, journalists and climate-affected communities.

The workshop extensively discussed the impacts of climate change and the concept of loss and damage, with particular focus on locally-led adaptation strategies in agriculture.

Organizers noted that the workshop aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of climate-related loss and damage, enabling them to align their work with national climate action strategies and contribute effectively to the development of a national mechanism.
