A Dhaka court on Tuesday imposed a travel ban on former acting chairman of the Bangladesh Jubo League, now banned, Md Anwarul Islam and his wife, Selina Khatun, in a case filed over allegations of amassing illegal wealth through abuse of power.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Shahjahan Kabir passed the order following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Earlier, on 5 October, ACC Assistant Director Md Ferdous Rahman filed the petition seeking a ban on the accused leaving the country.
According to the petition, the ACC is conducting an inquiry into allegations that Anwarul amassed a huge amount of illegal wealth by abusing his power.
During the inquiry, the ACC learned that Anwarul and his wife were attempting to flee the country.
The ACC sought a travel ban on the accused until completion of the ongoing inquiry, noting that if they managed to leave the country, the inquiry could be prolonged and disrupted.
