Uranium convoy reaches Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant

A convoy carrying uranium fuel has reached the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Ishwardi, Pabna, under tight security. The convoy arrived at the project site at around 12:30pm on Saturday.

Pabna Deputy Commissioner Aminul Islam confirmed the development, saying, “The convoy carrying the first uranium shipment for the plant’s second unit reached Rooppur after 12:30pm.”

The convoy left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport for Rooppur at around 7:15am under the security of the Bangladesh Army.

The uranium was transported in three lorries, while another vehicle carried other equipment. Members of a team of Russian experts accompanying the shipment were also part of the convoy.

Personnel from the Bangladesh Army, police, Special Security and Protection Battalion (SSPB) and various intelligence agencies were deployed to ensure security during the transportation.

A special cargo aircraft carrying the uranium for the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at around 11:30pm on Friday.

The shipment is intended for the first fuel load of Unit 2 of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, which is being built with Russian technical and financial assistance.
