At least 20 medical college students were injured after a bus carrying them lost control and fell into a ditch in Daudkandi, Cumilla, on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway.
The accident occurred around 4:30am on Tuesday (8 September) in the Jinglatali area of the upazila.
All the injured students are from Sher-e-Bangla Medical College. They were travelling from Barishal to Cox’s Bazar for their annual tour.
Following the accident, the students cancelled the trip and returned home.
The injured students were identified as Jaoat, Ferdous, Kausi, Miraj, Mursalin, Imon Mridha, Arif, Shafiqul Islam, Maliha Mehnaz, Raihan, Sajia, Taspia, Ariful Islam, Samiul, Rajorshi, Tasnim, Humaira, Mila, Nisa and Tanzina.
Of them, nine were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Daudkandi Highway Police Station Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Nur Uddin Bahar said police rushed to the scene after receiving the information and rescued the injured students.
A total of 40 students were on the bus at the time of the accident. Twenty of them were injured, while nine were sent to Dhaka for treatment.
