Three youths were killed when two motorcycles collided at Birkedar union, Kahalu upazila, Bogura on Friday evening.
Two others were lightly injured in the crash and went back home following first aid treatment, said Union Parishad Chairman Selim Uddin.
The deceased have been identified as: Md Rahim, 21, from Khash Naogaon area under Naogaon town; Apurba, 18, from Nuniapatty area in Chakdeb under the same town; and Prem, 20, from the same area of the town.
The three were close friends and rode on the same motorbike. Their bodies were sent to the Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital for autopsy, said Brojen Chandra Mahato, sub-inspector at Kahalu Police Station.
According to police and eyewitnesses, three youths were riding on an unregistered Gixer-branded motorbike to reach Bogura from Naogaon.
The bike was moving at high speed, and erratically in a zigzag pattern to show off acrobatics. It was also making a loud noise.
When it approached the Baro-mile bus stand in Birkedar union it collided with another motorbike coming from Chowmuhani area, Dupchanchia upazila of Bogura.
The two riders of the second motorbike were lightly injured, but the three riders of the first one died on the spot. The bike’s exceesive speed, and erratic driving likely caused the deaths.
