The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) has fined 39 businesses Tk426,500 for various irregularities during nationwide drives to ensure the sale of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders at government-fixed prices.
The fines were imposed by 23 teams conducting simultaneous drives in Dhaka city and 16 districts on Saturday, according to a DNCRP press release.
The campaign targeted LPG dealers, wholesalers and retailers to ensure adequate supply, prevent overcharging and maintain market stability.
Officials checked price displays, purchase and sales receipts, cylinder safety compliance and expiry dates. Traders were also warned against artificial shortages, excessive stockpiling and supply disruptions.
The DNCRP instructed traders to display updated prices and sell LPG cylinders at government-fixed rates.
Consumers were advised to check the cylinder’s weight, seal, expiry date and condition before purchase and collect receipts.
Complaints about overcharging and other irregularities can be made to the DNCRP hotline at 16121.
The directorate said such drives would continue to protect consumer rights and maintain market discipline.
