Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt has lent her support towards the students’ protests across the country.
Shortly after fellow Bollywood stars like Salman Khan, Shabana Azmi and Naseeruddin Shah spoke up about the protest, the actress took to her handle to share an emotional note, in which she praised the youth of the country for their resilience and called on people to listen to the voices of the younger generation.
Taking to her social media handles, Alia shared a statement that read, “The last few days have broken my heart and then mended it, again and again, with hope.”
The actress, who played the lead in the recent YRF spy film “Alpha”, went on to add, “Behind every student standing their ground is a dream, a family’s hope, a journey of countless sacrifices. They represent not just themselves but everyone who has supported them, while creating a better path for those who will come after them.”
Her statement comes shortly after Salman Khan also weighed in on the ongoing protests, with several public figures now speaking out in solidarity with students.
Several actors have been taking to social media, while others taking to the streets to join the protests and lend their support to the students’ movement, after many slammed Bollywood stars for their “silence” on the matter. Netizens have been taking to various online platforms to call out celebrities for staying mum on the subject and refusing to speak up amid calls for reforms in the education system.
Over the past few days, several members of the film industry, including Naseeruddin Shah, Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Prakash Raj, filmmakers Pa Ranjith, Swara Bhasker, Rajkummar Rao, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, actor Imran Khan, singer Arijit Singh, Rapper Hanumankind, Actor-filmmaker Revathy, Malayalam cinema superstar Tovino Thomas and actor Anupam Kher, among others, have lent their support to the protest.
