Daily Sun-Xinhua sign MoU for Global South Communication Partnership

The Daily Sun and Xinhua News Agency on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening cooperation in amplifying the voice of the Global South through joint communication initiatives.

The MoU signing ceremony was held at Daily Sun’s office in the capital on Wednesday, with Editor Rezaul Karim Lotus representing Daily Sun and Sun Nan, Bureau Chief of Xinhua News Agency in Bangladesh, signing on behalf of Xinhua.

Under the agreement, the two parties will work together to establish a Global South Media News Network, publish research reports and case studies, and deepen practical cooperation through platforms such as the Global South Media and Think Tank Forum.

According to the MoU, Xinhua will host the secretariat for the partnership programme, coordinating day-to-day liaison among partner institutions, facilitating information exchange, and organising workshops, training programmes, and high-level forums

Partner institutions will receive priority invitations to these events to foster greater collaboration.

The cooperation framework includes content sharing, joint publications, and resource integration, with both parties agreeing to maintain strict confidentiality regarding non-public information and ensure respect for intellectual property and other legal rights.

The MoU also stipulates that shared news content must remain truthful, objective, and unaltered in meaning when edited or translated.

The agreement, valid for one year upon signing and renewable automatically, reflects a shared commitment to advancing a more equitable global information order, promoting inclusive globalisation, and strengthening media cooperation across the Global South.

Senior officials and journalists, including Executive Director of the Daily Sun Tasvir ul Islam, Chinese Diplomat Yunyang Lin, Chief Human Resource Officer at Safwan Bashundhara Global Imran Bin Ferdous, Deputy Editor M Munir Hossain, Joint News Editor Abdul Mukith, Head of Reporting Md Alamin, Head of Online Moudud Ahmmed Sujan, Head of Multimedia Aninda Kabir, Sports Editor Atif Azam, Editor of Business and Economic Affairs Sumon Saha, News Editor of Multimedia Section Rumi Noman, and Editorial Assistant Joynul Abedin were present at the event.
