Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has expressed concern over the alarming decline of agricultural land in the country.
He said the government has no intention of constructing any kind of infrastructure by destroying agricultural land.
He made the remarks on Wednesday while inspecting a potential site for establishing a university in Thakurgaon Sadar upazila.
The minister said agricultural land is decreasing day by day in the country, which is a matter of concern for the future.
“We do not want to build any infrastructure by destroying agricultural land. Development activities will be carried out after considering all aspects so that damage to agriculture is minimised.”
He added that plans will be formulated by maintaining coordination between the development and agriculture sectors.
He assured that education and healthcare development activities will be implemented while protecting agricultural land.
