Battery-powered auto-rickshaw drivers blocked the road in front of the National Press Club in the capital on Monday afternoon, protesting the disconnection of electricity supplies used to charge their vehicle batteries.
The drivers took to the road and staged a demonstration, demanding the immediate restoration of the electricity connections. They chanted slogans while remaining on the road.
The drivers said they were facing serious difficulties after electricity connections used to charge their auto-rickshaw batteries were disconnected.
According to them, without electricity, they cannot charge their batteries, leaving them unable to operate their vehicles and earn a living.
The road blockade disrupted traffic in front of the Press Club and caused congestion on nearby roads, leaving commuters and pedestrians suffering.
The drivers said charging their vehicle batteries with electricity is essential to their livelihoods. They warned that they would announce tougher programmes if the electricity connections were not restored soon.
