Road communication between Bandarban and Rangamati has been severed after a bridge collapsed under the force of strong currents triggered by days of heavy rainfall.
The incident occurred on Saturday morning in the Dudhpukuria-Padua area of Rangunia upazila in Chattogram, about 20 kilometres from Bandarban Sadar.
According to local sources, the bridge gave way after being hit by powerful floodwaters, forcing the suspension of all vehicular movement along the Bandarban-Rangamati road.
The collapse due to heavy rain has left residents on both sides of the route facing severe hardship, with locals demanding immediate alternative crossing arrangements and the construction of a new bridge to restore connectivity.
Officials from the local administration and the relevant authorities visited the site after receiving reports of the incident.
Authorities said steps are being taken to assess the extent of the damage and restore road communication as quickly as possible.
