At least three buses were set on fire in Dhaka and Faridpur on Friday night.

In Dhaka, an empty bus was set on fire in the capital’s Kafrul area around 9:30pm.

The bus was parked in front of Kafrul police station, said Sub-Inspector Zahirul Islam.

He said the fire was brought under control with the help of local people.

A video circulating on social media showed the bus owned by the Mirpur Super Link Owners’ Association on fire.

Meanwhile, another bus was set on fire in the Chittagong Road area.

In Faridpur, a bus parked on the Dhaka-Khulna Highway was set on fire around 11pm, reports our correspondent.

The incident took place in the Kanaipur area in front of Karimpur highway police station.

Confirming the incident, Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahmudul Hasan said the fire suddenly broke out in a bus of Purbasha Paribahan that had been left abandoned after being involved in an accident.

An investigation was underway into the matter, he added.

Faridpur Fire Service Senior Station Officer Sribash Baroi said that on receiving the information, fire service personnel went to the spot and doused the blaze.

However, it could not be determined initially who set the fire or how it started, the official said.
