At least five Dhaka University students suffered injuries when a university transport bus crashed into the Moghbazar flyover in the capital on Wednesday afternoon.
The front upper section of the non-resident student bus, ‘Kinchit’, broke off completely upon impact with the overhead structure at around 3:30 pm during its afternoon return trip.
The collision caused immediate panic inside the vehicle. A student eyewitness, Rafi, stated that the impact caused several passengers to suffer painful injuries, with one or two requiring immediate medical dressings at a nearby pharmacy.
Another eyewitness, Helal Uddin Rafid, echoed the timing on social media, confirming that local residents and students assisted the injured victims right after the crash.
This incident marks the second major accident involving Dhaka University transport within a month. In mid-April, another university bus met with an accident on the elevated expressway near the BFDC section in the Tejgaon Industrial Area, which injured five to six students.
The consecutive accidents have sparked intense safety concerns among the general student body, who are now demanding immediate, effective measures from the university administration to secure the daily transport system.
Responding to the crisis, Dhaka University Central Students’ Union transport secretary Asif Abdullah labeled the incident as an act of recklessness, noting that the route usually features experienced drivers.
Abdullah confirmed that student representatives have already held talks with the bus committee and the driver involved.
He added that they have officially requested the Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation authorities to strictly instruct all university bus drivers to exercise greater caution on the roads.
