A Dhaka court on Sunday sent an accused on a three-day remand over the killing of his seven-month-old daughter in the Uttara area in the capital.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Zakir Hossain passed the order after a hearing, said Prosecution Division Sub-Inspector Helal Uddin.

Earlier on 23 July, Investigation Officer of the case and Turag Police Station Sub-inspector Mehedi Hasan Faisal filed a petition seeking a seven-day remand for the accused. The court set Sunday for hearing the plea.

According to the case documents, on the evening of 15 July, Kabir Islam, the accused, allegedly threw his seven-month-old daughter, Rafa Moni, onto the road in the Balur Math area near Siraj Market in Uttara.

Locals detained Kabir immediately after the incident and handed him over to police.

The injured child died the following day while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

The child’s maternal grandmother, Sharmin Akter, filed a murder case with Turag Police Station against Kabir on 17 July.
