A fire that broke out at Ashik Tower in Khaja Market in the capital’s Chawkbazar was brought under control by the Fire Service and Civil Defence on Saturday afternoon.
Firefighters rushed to the scene after receiving the report of the blaze at 1:34pm.
Anwarul Islam, inspector of the Fire Service and Civil Defence media cell, said the fire originated on the third floor of the eight-storey building.
He said six units from the Lalbagh and Siddique Bazar fire stations launched firefighting operations upon receiving the report and brought the blaze under control at around 3:14pm.
The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage could not be determined immediately.
