A fire broke out on the rooftop of an old four-storey building behind the British American Tobacco building in the capital’s Mohakhali area on Thursday.
Firefighters are working cautiously to bring the blaze under control as an electrical substation is located on the third floor of the building, close to the fire.
The Fire Service and Civil Defence received information about the fire at around 11:12am. Three units from Tejgaon Fire Station rushed to the scene and began efforts to control the blaze.
According to the Fire Service, the fire originated from discarded plastic materials kept on the rooftop. An electrical substation is located on the third floor, near the affected area.
Talha Bin Jasim, an officer of the Fire Service headquarters’ media cell, said the fire broke out in discarded plastic materials on the rooftop of an old four-storey building beside the British American Tobacco building in Mohakhali.
He said three units from Tejgaon Fire Station were working to bring the fire under control.
The cause of the fire and the extent of damage could not be determined immediately, he said.
No casualties have been reported so far.
