A fire broke out at a Rubber-Tyred Gantry (RTG) crane at the New-mooring Container Terminal (NCT) of Chattogram Port on Monday afternoon.
According to sources, the fire erupted in the crane while it was in operation at the Berth No-4 of the NCT around 2.30pm.
On information, firefighters from Bandar Fire Station rushed to the spot immediately while the firefighters from Bangladesh Navy and Agrabad Fire Station also joined them later.
They brought the fire under control, said Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) Acting Secretary Md Nasir Uddin.
“The fire originated in the engine of an RTG crane. Two containers located near the spot may have sustained minor damage,” he said.
The cause and extent of damage in the fire can be ascertained after investigation, Nasir said, adding that the port operation was going on as usual.
