The government on Monday revoked an earlier order that required all the state-run primary schools in the country to keep at least one set of three books on the Zia family in their libraries.

Rawshan Ara Poly, deputy secretary at the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, signed the latest order.

Earlier on 3 June, the ministry sent a letter to the Directorate of Primary Education, asking officials to ensure that at least one set of the three books are kept at the libraries of all primary schools.

The three books include “President Zia: Rajnoitik Jiboni” (President Zia: Political Life) and “Begum Khaleda Zia: Jibon O Sangram” – both biographical sketches penned by journalist Mahfuz Ullah.

The third book – “Sobar Age Bangladesh” (Bangladesh Before All) – has been written by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. The Jatiyatabadi Prokashona Sangstha published all the three books.
