Pakistan high commissioner to Bangladesh Syed Ahmed Maroof today called on foreign secretary Md Jashim Uddin and briefed him about the “regional issues”, a Bangladesh foreign office statement said.

“The High Commissioner of Pakistan briefed the Foreign Secretary about regional issues,” the statement said in an apparent reference to the escalated tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad over the terrorist attack in Kashmir in India.

The Pakistan envoy made the call on a day after foreign adviser Md Touhid Hossain said that Dhaka favours a peaceful resolution to the India-Pakistan tensions over Kashmir, emphasizing dialogue and diplomacy as the means to ensure peace and stability across South Asia.

According to the statement the foreign secretary and the envoy expected Pakistan’s deputy prime minister and foreign minister Ishaq Dar’s Dhaka visit would take place at a mutually convenient time as he was forced to postpone it in a scheduled date against the backdrop of India-Pakistan tensions.

Bangladesh foreign office’s top bureaucrat and the Pakistan high commissioner expressed satisfaction with the “constructive discussion and the successful conclusion” of the sixth round of Foreign Secretary Level Bilateral Consultations (FOC) on April 17 in Dhaka.
