Two succumb to burns after Ctg salt factory fire

Two persons who suffered severe burns in a fire at a salt factory at Boalkhali upazila in the district died while undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) on Thursday night.

The deceased were identified as Nurul Alam of Habilasdwip union in Patiya and Didarul Alam, 32, of Boalkhali municipality. Both worked at the affected Confidence Salt Factory.

Six other injured workers remained hospitalised, while four of them were in critical condition, doctors said.

CMCH police outpost in-charge Nurul Alam Ashik said the two workers died in the hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU).

Sources said work for generator repair and other electric equipment was going on at the generator room of the Confidence Salt Factory, located at West Gomdandi area under the upazila, on Thursday morning.

At one stage of the work, two air conditioners of the adjoining room blasted, resulting in a fire incident.

The incident left 10 people injured, including five factory employees and five hired workers.
