US Special Envoy to South and Central Asia Ambassador Sergio Gor is set to visit the Rohingya refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar on Friday as part of his three-day visit to Bangladesh.
Gor is scheduled to travel directly from Dhaka to Cox’s Bazar, where he will assess the overall situation of the Rohingya refugees and review conditions in the camps.
The envoy arrived in Dhaka on Thursday (30 July) and later held talks with Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman at the State Guest House Padma.
Speaking after the meeting, the foreign minister said relations between the United States and the current Bangladesh government had been strong from the outset and were continuing to deepen. He added that Bangladesh had requested increased US assistance for the Rohingya refugees.
Gor is also scheduled to meet Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Saturday before concluding his three-day visit to Bangladesh.
