BNP Senior Joint Secretary General and Prime Minister’s Political Adviser Ruhul Kabir Rizvi claimed on Friday that the BNP government had implemented most of its election pledges and programmes within six months.
He said some targets had been achieved fully, while others had reached 90–95%, adding that detailed statistics on the government’s achievements over the past six months would be released soon
Rizvi made the remarks at an emergency press conference at the BNP central office in the capital’s Nayapaltan in the afternoon.
He said the government had largely met the targets set for its first six months.
“Some may not have reached 100%, but they are at 95% or 90%. In some cases, 100% has been achieved,” he said.
He said time had been required to put in place the necessary structures and administrative preparations to implement the programmes.
Rizvi expressed hope that the government’s programmes would be implemented more vigorously and swiftly during the next six months.
Asked about the BNP secretary general’s resignation after being nominated as the party’s presidential candidate, Rizvi said there was no legal obligation to resign from a party post or another government position before taking the oath of office.
However, he said the secretary general had decided to resign from the party post on ethical grounds.
At the beginning of the press conference, Rizvi highlighted various aspects of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s political career.
He said Khaleda Zia had never deviated from her commitment to independence, sovereignty and democracy, and had endured suffering, persecution and repression throughout her political career as a result.
Recalling her role in the 1990 Anti-Autocracy Movement, Rizvi said Khaleda Zia had been the symbol and main inspiration of the movement led by students and people.
BNP Joint Secretary Generals Khairul Kabir Khokon and Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel, volunteer affairs secretary Mir Sarafat Ali Sapu, assistant office secretary Md Munir Hossain, BNP National Executive Committee members Abdus Sattar Patwari and Tarikul Alam Tenzing, Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal Senior Vice-President Yasin Ali and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal Vice-President Dr Touhid Awwal, among others, were present at the press conference.
