Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD) Minister Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan has said the government is keen to take the existing friendly relations between Bangladesh and Malaysia to new heights.
The issue was discussed during a meeting with Malaysian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Mohammad Shuhada Osman at the Secretariat on Sunday (30 August).
State Minister for Local Government Mir Shahe Alam was also present at the meeting.
The minister emphasised the need to expand cooperation between the two countries in a range of areas, including manpower exports, renewable energy, infrastructure, education, healthcare and trade.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Malaysian high commissioner expressed satisfaction over the successful recent visit of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh to Malaysia. The two sides later held detailed discussions on various aspects of bilateral relations.
The meeting placed particular emphasis on increasing manpower exports from Bangladesh to Malaysia and registering undocumented workers, creating employment opportunities for Bangladeshi engineers in Malaysia, and constructing hospitals through joint initiatives between the two countries.
The two sides also discussed expanding opportunities for Bangladeshi students to pursue higher education in Malaysia, investment in the renewable energy sector and cooperation in the production of sports goods.
In addition, discussions were held on further strengthening economic ties between the two countries through cooperation in areas such as electric vehicle imports, the construction sector and halal food, among others.
