Prime Minister’s Adviser and Spokesperson for Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Mahdi Amin has described the newly announced national budget as a democratic, humane and inclusive economic roadmap designed to reflect the aspirations of people from all walks of life.

In a Facebook post following the budget announcement, Mahdi said the budget was prepared by a government elected by the people after many years and was based on the BNP’s election manifesto.

Mahdi thanked Prime Minister Tarique Rahman was thanked for guiding what officials called a “people-friendly, welfare-oriented and visionary budget.”

The statement highlighted major initiatives in 12 key sectors, including education, healthcare, employment and skills development, ICT, creative economy, agriculture and food security, social safety nets, women and child welfare, infrastructure, energy, and climate resilience.

According to Mahdi, taxes have been reduced on many essential commodities — including rice, lentils, fish, meat, sugar, salt, cooking oil and spices — with the aim of easing inflationary pressure and reducing the cost burden on ordinary citizens.

In healthcare, the budget proposes measures to make treatment for heart, kidney and eye diseases more affordable, while education spending is aimed at expanding equitable access from primary to higher education.

Farmers are expected to benefit from easier access to fertiliser, seeds, irrigation, pesticides and agricultural insurance.

Mahdi also said the budget prioritises investment growth, easier bank credit, and employment-led economic expansion. Support measures have been announced for startups, freelancing, outsourcing, content creation and other technology-based businesses, with a special focus on youth and women’s empowerment.

Officials noted that the budget does not include any provision to legalise undisclosed wealth. Instead, it emphasises recovering illicit funds sent abroad, improving governance in banking and capital markets, reducing operational expenditure, and increasing productive development spending.

The statement concluded by expressing confidence that, despite future challenges, the budget would help accelerate Bangladesh’s journey toward a more prosperous and self-reliant economy through democratic governance and public trust.
