Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain has warned that no irregularities will be tolerated in his ministry.

He made the warning while speaking as the chief guest at the ‘Annual Conference 2026’ of the Alumni Association of the Department of Economics of Dhaka University at Raowa Club Convention Centre in Mohakhali here on Saturday night.

The minister also expressed his determination to work with integrity and uphold the reputation of the ministry.

Recalling his university days, classmates and memories of the Liberation War, he paid tribute to the memory of the late teachers and classmates of the department and prayed for the eternal peace of their souls.

Sakhawat Husain said that as students of the 1969-70 batch, their studies were disrupted by the Liberation War.

“When we returned after the war and had to sit for the examinations, we met the then department head Dr MN Huda. We requested special consideration, highlighting our participation in the war for the country’s independence.

“Later, with the sincere support of our teachers, arrangements were made for our regularisation,” he said.

Recalling the contributions of the teachers, the health minister said, “We have been able to reach this stage in our lives due to the guidance and affection of our talented teachers.”

Regarding the duties of the Health Ministry, he said, “I want to perform the important responsibility the Prime Minister has given me with utmost dedication. My main goal is to serve the country by upholding the reputation of the Economics Department.”

The event was attended, among others, by economist Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman, former adviser to the interim government Wahid Uddin Mahmud Chowdhury, chairman of the Economics Department at Dhaka University Dr Ferdousi Nahar and Dhaka University Economics Department Alumni Association (DUEDAA) President Syed Ali Jowhar Rizvi.
