The National Citizen Party (NCP) has come under criticism for allegedly blocking a road to hold a political rally in the capital.
The party held the rally on Shaheed Faruk Road in Jatrabari on Friday, with the road reportedly blocked during the event.
The disruption sparked frustration among commuters, with several videos of the incident circulating widely on social media.
In one video, crowds of NCP activists can be seen gathering in the lanes around the rally venue. A middle-aged woman and a young woman were heard shouting at senior party leaders, expressing anger over the difficulties caused by the road closure.
“There is no arrangement for women to travel. If you block the road like this, how are we supposed to get around?” one of the woman said.
The rally was organised by the NCP’s Dhaka South unit to press various demands before the government.
NCP Convener and Chief Whip of the Opposition Nahid Islam, party spokesperson Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan, Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari, Political Council members Abdullah Al Amin and Ariful Islam Adib, and Dhaka South NCP Convener Ishaq Sarkar, among other central and metropolitan leaders, addressed the rally.
