Prime Minister Tarique Rahman conducted unannounced inspections at 13 locations in the capital over four and a half hours starting 9:10am on Saturday, and ordered penalties and corrective measures wherever irregularities were found.

In addition to visiting various hospitals, educational institutions, and residential areas for government employees across the capital, the prime minister also inspected a hawker-free footpath in Mirpur-10.

During the visits, Tarique spoke with the relevant authorities and assessed cleanliness, service quality, and overall management at the different locations.

The prime minister first visited the Kuwait-Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital in Uttara. He then visited Rajuk Uttara Model College and Mirpur Cantonment Public School and College.

Next, he visited the National Heart Foundation of Bangladesh in Mirpur, the Paikpara Staff Quarters, and Government Bangla College.

Later, the Prime Minister visited Bangladesh Shishu Hospital and Institute in Agargaon, as well as Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital.

The Prime Minister then visited his former educational institution, Dhaka Residential Model College. There, the Prime Minister addressed students and urged them to help build a clean Bangladesh and plant more trees.

The Prime Minister also inspected Dhanmondi Government Boys’ High School, the Kalabagan Staff Quarters, and the Azimpur Government Officers’ and Employees’ Quarters.

During the inspections, the Prime Minister expressed dissatisfaction upon finding unhygienic conditions and shortcomings in management at several locations. The relevant authorities were given two weeks to clean up the Azimpur government quarters.

Earlier, following the visit to Kuwait-Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital in Uttara, the authorities had been given seven days to improve the hospital’s environment and cleanliness.

During one of the visits, the Prime Minister entered the office of Dr Rafiqul Islam, an associate professor at Bangladesh Shishu Hospital and Institute, and found him smoking. The doctor’s office was also found to be unclean. In response, the Prime Minister immediately instructed the hospital’s chairman to take action against the doctor. Following the directive, Dr Rafiqul Islam was temporarily suspended.

In addition, the Prime Minister inspected the hawker-free footpath in Mirpur-10. Dhaka North City Corporation Administrator Shafiqul Islam Khan Milton was present at the time.

During the surprise inspections, the Prime Minister spoke with officials from various institutions, students, and members of the public. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of responsible conduct by the relevant authorities to ensure effective public services, cleanliness, and public health.
