At least seven people were killed and 15 others injured after a passenger bus lost control and rammed into a group of labourers waiting for work on the Bogura–Naogaon highway early on Friday.

The accident occurred at around 5:30am in the Silkibandha area of Erulia, according to Shafiqul Islam, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Bogura Sadar Police Station.

Police said the bus, travelling from Dhaka to Naogaon, veered out of control and struck an electric pole on the right side of the highway before crashing into a group of day labourers who had gathered by the roadside in search of work.

Following the accident, local residents, assisted by emergency responders, rescued the injured and rushed them to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura.

Doctors at the hospital said several of the injured were in critical condition, raising fears that the death toll could rise.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
