Police have arrested six leaders and activists of banned Awami League during a secret meeting at a restaurant in Gulshan, Dhaka.
The arrested individuals were identified as Mehedi Masud Chowdhury, 55; S M Rezwan Habib Alif, 33; Nannu Mia, 38; Aminur Rahman, 42; Sajal Ahmed, 29; and Ibrahim Hossain, 33.
Gulshan police arrested them from a restaurant on the fifth floor of Police Plaza at around 9:30pm on Friday (7 August).
Gulshan Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Daud Hossain confirmed the arrests later that night.
He said police received information that several Awami League leaders and activists were holding a secret meeting at a restaurant on the fifth floor of Police Plaza.
“Acting on the information, we conducted a raid there and arrested six Awami League leaders and activists,” he said.
During preliminary interrogation, the detainees reportedly told police that they had planned to hold a procession in the capital after the meeting.
The OC said further legal action against the arrested individuals was under process.
