Water Resources Minister Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee has sought continued support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for sustainable water resources management, riverbank protection and preventing river erosion in Bangladesh.
He made the request when ADB Executive Director Satya Srinivas Lolla met him at the Water Resources Ministry at the Secretariat on Monday.
State Minister for Water Resources Farhad Hossain Azad was also present at the meeting.
Welcoming the ADB executive director to Bangladesh, the minister said the government is keen to work with the ADB to strengthen economic cooperation and advance sustainable water resources management.
He said the ADB could play a more effective role in promoting sustainable growth, strengthening disaster resilience, expanding regional cooperation and improving people’s living standards.
State Minister Azad described the ADB as a trusted development partner of Bangladesh and sought greater cooperation in experience-sharing, education, technological assistance, professional training and research in water resources management.
Lolla said the ADB was working to strengthen its partnership with Bangladesh and formulate a new Country Partnership Strategy.
He expressed the ADB’s interest in working with Bangladesh on sustainable water resources management, riverbank protection and measures to prevent river erosion.
Additional Secretaries Khondkar Azim Uddin and Md Enamul Haque of the ministry, along with senior ADB officials, attended the meeting.
